Global Career Application

An application is a written document with which you can introduce yourself to a company and apply for a job. As a rule, the application consists of a cover letter, a CV, an application photo and attachments. The application documents are sent by e-mail as a PDF file, possibly with the covering letter in the text of the e-mail.

A case study assessment can form part of an interview process and simulates a practical problem that the participants have to analyse and solve, either alone or together with other applicants, under time pressure. The case study aims to test the analytical and organisational skills of the applicants as well as their solution orientation, stress resistance, and ability to concentrate. If case studies are worked on in groups, the teamwork skills of the individual participants are also put to the test.

At the beginning of the process, there is an inventory of the current problems, which are then intensively examined to see how they arose. In the next phase, change management develops change processes and defines goals on how to improve the situation. In this context, the time and financial scope of the realignment are also determined. The planning is followed by the concrete implementation, which should ideally be carried out in a socially acceptable manner. A practical part of this phase is the implementation of internal reforms. Finally, the process of change management can be regularly checked for success using various test instruments.

Nowadays, the curriculum vitae (or CV) is considered the most important document in any application. On one to two pages, you summarize your personal data, competencies and skills, outline your educational and professional career and give employers a first impression of you as a person. The CV is the part of the application documentation that presents you as a suitable candidate for an advertised position. In your CV, you briefly and concisely detail your experience and qualifications and respond to the requirements stated in a job advertisement. Ideally, you will create a new document individually for each application and only list the experience and skills that are of relevance to the advertised position.

The term internship refers to work done at an institution or company for a limited period of time to deepen practical skills and prepare for a profession. It can be done on a voluntary basis, as career orientation, on a bridging basis or as a compulsory part of the overall training. Depending on the field, interns are involved in more or less of the work processes that are also handled by trained professionals. Whether the intern receives financial remuneration depends on the type of the internship and the reason for it. At the end of the internship, a certificate is usually issued for further use. A voluntary internship testifies to a high degree of self-motivation. It certifies practical experience that goes beyond the compulsory level. A work placement helps graduates and students to choose a career and gives the long-term unemployed the opportunity to avoid gaps in their CVs while also gaining skills for re-entry into working life. Compulsory internships generate the practical experience that neither schools nor academic education are able to provide. Internships abroad also help in learning foreign languages in a professional and everyday environment.

A letter of recommendation is an evaluative letter in which an employer or recruiter comments favorably on an employee's performance and attitude to work. Its content focuses on soft skills. The letter of recommendation is an optional attachment to the application and does not have to be issued by the employer. Unlike the employer's reference, the letter of recommendation does not follow a clear structure and is formulated in a more individual and personal way. The purpose of the letter of recommendation is to recommend the former employee for a desired position. Applicants applying for a management position or internally for a new job: When applying for a management position, prospective candidates usually find themselves competing with a large number of other applicants. Here, too, a letter of recommendation can have a positive impact on the application process, especially if former supervisors highlight the applicant's leadership qualities and provide positive feedback on the candidate's work ethic and interpersonal behavior.

Networking describes establishing and maintaining relationships by building contacts for mutually beneficial, professional goals. It can happen sporadically, through chance encounters or organised meetings with concrete planning. Everyone within a network should benefit from the shared connections. Individuals can benefit from mutual referrals of orders, recommendations, joint projects or even acquisition actions. Networking is an extensive network of people. Networks can lead to an improvement in the professional situation. Access contacts from a wide range of professional groups and positions to help achieve your business goals. An array of entrepreneurs and freelancers, in particular, constitute a large portion of their order volume to networks. Therefore, networking is an indispensable part of customer acquisition. Networking also regularly increases career opportunities for employees. Communicating between stakeholders in a problem-oriented and project-related way is less complicated within networks. Particularly in long term business relationships, where a basis of trust has built over time. These relationships trump anonymous references and faceless testimonials. Conversely, networking offers new players the opportunity to raise their profile, at least regionally, without a large advertising budget or the need to recruit initial clients/business partners.

Project management is a collective term for all planning, organisational, monitoring, controlling and finalising processes to be carried out within the framework of a project. Many content/textual components of project management are standardised, which facilitates communication between international actors. The tasks of project management are already evident from the five phases. A detailed feasibility analysis and planning is at the beginning, followed by the preparation of a project plan that considers financial aspects like factors such as the number of workers, material procurement and the time scope of the project. Internal communication between all stakeholders - project management, work team, subcontractors and client - is as much at the heart of project management as accurate project monitoring and documentation of all progress. It must also be possible to react to crises at any time – therefore, the preparation of possible alternative plans is also part of the project manager's area of responsibility. Finally, project management involves administrative tasks such as final reports, process documentation and handover formalities.

The applicant screening is part of the recruiting process. It describes the interview, review and analysis of all documents provided by the applicant by the recruiter. The applicant screening aims to get to know the applicant as well as possible in order to be able to decide afterwards whether a candidate is suitable for an advertised position. At no stage will violation of personal rights or the data protection regulations happen in the context of an applicants screening. Furthermore, employers are not entitled to ask questions and conduct research that has nothing to do with the job.

Soft skills describe the character of a person, his or her ways of acting and dealing with other people. They reflect both weaknesses and strengths. Employers are attaching more and more importance to soft skills. To achieve common goals, leaders should be communicative and empathetic, i.e. they should formulate messages clearly and interpret those of their employees skillfully. Furthermore, leaders should be able to motivate and work in a team-oriented manner, as well as demonstrate assertiveness and organisational skills.

A video conference enables a thematic exchange among several people without the need for a physical presence. Modern means of communication generate both an acoustic and visual representation of the participants, which is often perceived as more authentic and familiar than an ordinary telephone conversation. One of the main advantages of video conferencing is the ability to bring together participants at different, sometimes very far-flung locations. This avoids a lengthy and costly journey and the travel time can be used for productive activities. This also saves money and reduces the impact on the environment. In addition, video conferencing allows for quick and uncomplicated access to professional expertise. Special situations (e.g. crises) of globally operating companies can be managed independently of location, and decisions can be made quicker. Many employees consider the fact that they are not tied to a particular location to be easier on the nerves and conducive to concentration and is often preferred by those working from home.

The term vocational training refers to education and skills based training programs that prepare people for a specific job, trade, or craft. Work and study are often combined in this matter. After successful completion, the candidate is awarded an official vocational qualification that authorizes him or her to perform the intended work independently. As a rule, this kind of training or apprenticeship follows a school-leaving qualification, but it can also take place at a later stage. The person undergoing training is referred to as an apprentice or trainee. There are many advantages to dual vocational training, including regular remuneration and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge at the training company. This means that work experience can already be gained during the training stage. Another advantage is the qualifications that can be obtained from dual training course. Graduates from dual vocational training often receive a certificate from the training company, a vocational school certificate and or a skilled worker's certificate. Lastly, there is a chance that graduates from this type of training will be taken on by the training company in a permanent employment relationship.

The term work-life balance describes a state in which professional demands and private life are in a harmonious relationship. The division between work commitments, private matters, and recreational activities is in balance. The idea of a good work-life balance has gained enormous importance in recent decades, as employees, employers, and healthcare professionals have become increasingly aware of the mental and physical wellbeing benefits of finding the right balance. Companies offer numerous possibilities to generate a good work-life balance. This starts with the establishment of flexible working hours and optional home working. The provision of in-house childcare makes it significantly easier to create a work-life balance. In addition to a good company culture with flat hierarchies and a positive working atmosphere, employers can contribute to healthy lifestyles for their employees in several ways. Many companies have comprehensive healthcare services in place and organise health days, hand out information material and invite experts to give lectures. Healthy nutrition can be created by setting up a staff kitchen as well as by offering appropriate food in the company canteen. The same applies to the free and unlimited provision of fruit and mineral water in the office. A growing number of employers are also enabling their employees to take part in sporting activities, either through discounts in fitness studios or their own sports facilities. Finally, appropriate leisure activities (table football, darts, board games) increase the recreational value during breaks or times of low workload. Ideally, every employee should always have a contact person available to quickly help with any work-life problems that may arise.
